CRFC Christmas Appeal & Toy Drop

CRFC Christmas Appeal & Toy Drop

November 18, 2020 YOUR CLUB NEWS

2020 has been a very challenging year for everyone but special thoughts must go to those most in need. This Christmas Season we would like to help those who, for one reason or another are unable to help themselves. Galway Corinthians RFC are partnering with Galway Simon Community and we are asking  all club members and friends to consider donating to our 2020 Christmas Appeal in aid of the homeless and the needy in Galway City & County. Galway Simon Community was set up in 1979 by a group of volunteers who refused to accept homelessness on the streets of Galway. With the support of the wider community, they have grown, developed, learned and adapted over the years to become a leading provider of homeless and homelessness prevention services in the region.

Support from our Christmas Appeal will not only help us to provide real and practical help to people supported by Galway Simon Communities many services but it also offers them the comfort of knowing that others are thinking of them at a time of year that can be particularly difficult for them. This year, with the additional safety precautions that we need to consider in light of Covid-19, both within local services as well as among service volunteers who help to sort and distribute donations like this, we are encouraging members and friends to consider donating gift vouchers instead of tangible goods wherever possible.

As you can imagine, the practicality of a gift voucher donation enables the front line staff to provide additional support to those who need it most over the Christmas period and well into the New Year, as well as helping to relieve some of the financial pressures they may be facing, it also offers the recipient the dignity of being able to provide something for themselves, or their families that many others take for granted. Unfortunately homelessness does not end in January when we all return to work.

No amount is too small, and every voucher will be used effectively and transparently to help make a difference to the people that Galway Simon Community work with. Voucher Ideas: Aldi, Lidl, Dunnes, Penneys, Smyths, Argos, and local butchers, coal or fuel merchants.  We understand that gift vouchers may not be a preferred donation so we would be deeply grateful of a more tangible collection too and items that Galway Simon Community have an ongoing need for include toiletries (shower gels, shampoo, deodorants, toothpaste, shaving foam), socks, underwear, bed linen, towels and pyjamas. We’d also be very glad to accept children’s toys.

You can purchase a small gift, be it a kids toy or a pair of socks and drop off at the clubhouse for delivery to the Galway Simon Community on December 22nd by Galway Corinthians President Kieran Flaherty.
