Over the past number of years, the Corinthians TAG has built itself into the largest in the country with over 1500 players participating from the competitive to the social and with that, has become one of the most anticipated events in the Galway calendar.
Part of that success has been down to the ever-popular Fancy Dress event that usually signifies the midway point in the TAG and the money raised has gone to very deserving causes and organisations to help in some small way towards the running and everyday costs of said organisations.
It can be argued that this year will be even more special as the organisation chosen for the 2019 Fancy Dress are The Galway Hospice who have been providing a crucial service for cancer patients and their families and loved ones since their formation in 1986.
The Galway Hospice Community Palliative Care team commenced providing services on 1st January 1990 and from humble beginnings, the service has grown into the extensive consultant-led multi-disciplinary service that currently looks after 600 patients per year in their own homes and in other non-acute community settings.
In late 2015, the Hospice completed the addition of 6 inpatient beds in single rooms, in association with the construction of a new entrance from the Dublin Road.
At the Hospice, the multidisciplinary team now includes Consultants in Palliative Medicine (one of whom is Medical Director), Medical Registrars, Medical Officers, Clinical Nurse Managers, Staff Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Auxiliary Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Complementary Therapists and Pastoral Care. It is a consultant-led, patient-focused, staff-supported service that provides quality care to patients, and supports for the patient’s family or carer.
The money that is raised from the Corinthians Fancy Dress will go towards the services that Galway Hospice provide and will, no doubt, become another memorable night of fun and Tag Rugby.
